Bungie Details Destiny 2 Special Editions, Expansion Pass Teased

On the heels of yesterday's grand reveal, Bungie has now offered up new details on both Destiny 2's Special Editions and the Expansion Pass.

Though a series of untimely leaks threatened to spoil the surprise, yesterday brought confirmation that Destiny 2 is real, and that it’ll launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC (!) on September 8th.

Pre-orders are open now, and those who choose to secure their copy ahead of time will gain access to the sequel’s upcoming beta test – expect further details to emerge over the coming months. But with Destiny 2 still the talk of the town, Bungie has now detailed the shooter’s Special Editions and Expansion Pass. Priced at $34.99, the latter opens up “Expansion I and Expansion II, offering brand new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer, and a wealth of new weapons, armor, and gear.”

It’s far too soon for Bungie to release concrete details pertaining to those add-ons, but if the studio’s content plan for vanilla Destiny is any indication, then Guardians can expect Destiny 2‘s post-launch content to begin rolling out before the year’s end – for the sake of comparison, The Dark Below launched in December of 2014.

There’s also mention of the Special Editions available for Destiny 2, with the Standard Edition going for $59.99. First spotted by PSLS, they are as follows:

Game + Expansion Pass ($89.99 USD)

Destiny 2 is officially locked in for a release on September 8th, with a gameplay reveal due on May 18th. That relatively quiet September corridor ensured Bungie’s franchise-starter enjoyed a healthy amount of breathing space three years ago, and we can’t imagine that many developers will want to launch a title under the shadow of its blockbuster sequel come September.
