Disney And Lucasfilm Planning A Fourth Star Wars Trilogy After Episode IX

Without a doubt, Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in any medium, ever. For proof of that, one need only look at the recent releases of The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Despite the decade long gap in between the prequel trilogy and the sequel one, J.J. Abrams’ entry into the galaxy far, far away was a tremendous success. Gareth Edwards’ spinoff, meanwhile, proved that even when venturing outside of the main saga, Star Wars is still an unstoppable force.

So, it’s no surprise then that Disney and Lucasfilm want to keep these movies coming for as long as they can, with plans recently being revealed to deliver new Star Wars films for at least the next 15 years. And though we already know what some of those will be – Han Solo, Episode IX, probably an Obi-Wan spinoff – we definitely don’t know the full extent of what’s in store for us. There are no doubt countless projects being planned that we haven’t even heard of yet, but if a new report is to be believed, then we can expect to see, at the very least, another new trilogy.

That’s according to Star Wars News Net, who recently posted an exhaustive piece on the future of the franchise, naming a ton of exciting projects that we can look forward to. Buried at the end of the report, however, was the mention of yet another trilogy (which would be the fourth, for those keeping score). They note that there’ll be a long gap between Episode IX and Episode X, as has been the case with previous trilogies so as to not oversaturate the market, but rest assured, the main saga will continue.

Apparently, the plan will be to put the films on hiatus for a while after Episode IX lands and focus heavily on several new Star Wars TV shows. Eventually, however, once people become hungry for another movie again, they’ll launch the new trilogy. It’s unknown if it’ll focus on Luke, but we imagine that he’ll be involved somehow, as will Rey, Kylo and the rest of the gang. Granted, none of this has been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney, and Star Wars News Net simply cites an inside source as for where they got their info, but we have no reason to not believe them.
