We’ve been privy to quite a lot of new Spider-Man: Homecoming information these last couple of days, as multiple websites debuted their set visit reports simultaneously, but this latest tidbit may be the most intriguing one yet.

It’s previously been revealed that Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, AKA the Vulture, will have beef with Tony Stark’s Damage Control after the group puts him out of work, and a new report has now shed some light on that, telling us that the film will actually open with a flashback to the familiar incident that ultimately drove Toomes down a villainous path.

Following the Chitauri invasion of earth at the end of Marvel’s The Avengers, Toomes and his crew begin their arduous job of cleaning up the city, only to discover that Stark has bankrolled a new government agency to handle it. This puts Toomes and his colleagues out of business, and the vengeful family man sets about gathering up any Chitauri tech he can find, eventually managing to create his mega-powerful Vulture wings and costume.

Based on everything we’ve heard so far, it seems like Keaton’s take on the Vulture will continue the previous Spider-Man movies’ tradition of dangerous, but somewhat sympathetic bad guys. Having said that, Toomes does threaten to murder everyone Peter Parker cares about in the trailer….so, perhaps not that sympathetic.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to swing into theatres on July 7th. A sequel has already been earmarked for 2019 and though that may seem like an awful long way away, we can at least look forward to Tom Holland appearing in future Avengers films between then and now.
