Nioh‘s first piece of paid-for DLC is due to arrive next month, publisher Koei Tecmo has announced. The action-RPG’s website pegs Dragon of the North‘s release date as May 2 in Japan and will cost 1,300 Yen (roughly $9.99) to download from the PlayStation Store. Koei Tecmo has yet to make a similar announcement for North America or Europe, but you can likely expect one shortly.
As for what comes packed into Dragon of the North, new weapon categories to join the likes of spears, axes and katanas will be included, as well as brand new scenarios, characters, Guardian Spirits, stages and Yokai enemy types. That last one is particularly noteworthy as, although Nioh‘s core experience offers more than enough bang for your buck, its enemy variety can often feel lacking in the latter stages of the game, as various Yokai types are recycled and/or reused frequently.
Dragon of the North is included in the game’s $24.99 season pass, which also encompasses upcoming add-ons Defiant Honor and Bloodshed’s End, although details for both of those have yet to be announced.
Due to arrive alongside the above next month is the free PvP mode originally announced prior to Nioh‘s release, which will finally allow players to pit their own tailored versions of William against each other to discern who is the superior samurai. Specific details for the new mode are still forthcoming, so expect Koei and Team Ninja to share more over the coming weeks.
Nioh arrived to rapturous applause from critics and genre fans alike back in February. Despite its status as a new IP and a platform exclusive, the title has since gone on to ship more than one million copies since launch, a number that will hopefully continue to grow. See here for our review.
