Does Namor The Sub-Mariner Cameo In Thor: Ragnarok?

Earlier this week, Marvel dropped the very first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok and the internet went wild. Why? Well, aside from the fact that it looked downright incredible, it also delivered something that no one was expecting. The first two solo outings for the God of Thunder were mediocre affairs at best and admittedly, expectations for the threequel weren't terribly high. That's why the preview was able to knock everyone's socks off, as it seriously seems like it could be one of Marvel's best efforts to date.

Among the many, many exciting things that were on display in the first bit of footage was one small shot that’s been causing quite a stir online. As you can see in the photo below, off in the distance while Thor is being dragged away, you can make out someone holding a trident. We don’t get a look at his face, but the weapon he’s holding is unmistakable.

Of course, the one character that instantly comes to mind here is Namor the Sub-Mariner, who’s yet to make his MCU debut but is rumored to be getting ready to do so very soon. Now, this trident could just be a coincidence, but with rumblings that point to Marvel finally having the rights to the character back, and a wave of reports hitting the web not too long ago about the hero getting his own film, could it be that the studio is setting up his big screen outing by giving him a cameo here?

Honestly, it’s hard to say. If this is indeed Namor, we don’t imagine Marvel would be foolish enough to have let him appear in the trailer and ruin the surprise. Then again, maybe they were hoping fans would spot him in order to drum up some excitement and hype for Thor: Ragnarok. Who knows? Either way, you better be sure to keep your eyes peeled when Taika Waititi’s threequel descends into theatres on November 3rd.
