Finn And Poe’s Relationship Is Going To Blossom In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Will the bromance between Poe Dameron and Finn transition into a full-blown romance? The duo were one of the highlights of The Force Awakens, with 'shippers quickly pairing up the former Stormtrooper and hunky rebel pilot (then again, 'shippers will pair anything and anyone). But Poe/Finn always felt like a plausible relationship, with rumors that it'd be made official when Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson Re-Tweeted fan-art of the pair happily in love.

A further hint has now been dropped during the Star Wars Celebration panel for The Last Jedi, when John Boyega was asked what developments in their relationship we’d see in Episode VIII. He responded with, “Absolutely, their relationship continues to blossom. Poe’s my boy. There’s always a new adventure for them to go on.” Dare we hope that it might be an adventure… in love?

For a number of reasons, I hope it will be. First and foremost is because it’s 2017 and there’s no reason why a Star Wars film shouldn’t have a gay relationship front and centre. But also because it’d send certain sections of the internet into a foaming apoplectic rage, which is always fun to giggle at from a distance. Also, it’d make up for the shoddy way gay relationships have been treated in the Star Wars universe to date, like when they were segregated on the infamous ‘gay planet’ in Bioware MMO The Old Republic.

We already know that J.J. Abrams seems up for it, commenting in 2016 that, “To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility, so it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.” What do you guys think, though? Will Poe/Finn be this generation’s Han/Leia?

We’ll know for sure if love is on the cards when Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens big on December 15th.
