Sounds Like M. Night Shyamalan Is Rustling Up A Suitably Dark Finale To His Split Sequel

Judging by the director's Twitter feed, M. Night Shyamalan is rustling up a suitably dark and thrilling conclusion to his upcoming Split sequel.

For years, many feared that M. Night Shyamalan’s best days were behind him. Since breaking onto the Hollywood scene with The Sixth Sense all those years ago, his career has been defined by triumphant highs (Unbreakable) and crushing lows (The Happening). However, it wasn’t long after the release of The Last Airbender in 2010 that Shyamalan quietly began to stage a comeback – and not a moment too soon.

After Earth aside, the back-to-back punch of The Visit and January’s psychological thriller Split has in many ways reinstated M. Night Shyamalan’s status as one of the most tenacious filmmakers working in the industry today. The latter went on to become a box office hit, too – $272 million worldwide, to be precise – spawning talk of a sequel that would, in turn, close out the trilogy once and for all. Bear in mind that if you’ve yet to watch Split – and what are you still doing reading this article? – then we’d advise you to tread lightly in fear of spoiling the film’s twist ending.

Still with us? After reflecting on the original, much darker ending to Split last week, M. Night Shyamalan has now turned his attention to the sequel’s grand finale. First spotted by ComicBook.com, the writer-director Tweeted out a message regarding his work-in-progress, which is seemingly shaping up to be a pulse-pounding conclusion to the Split/Unbreakable saga.

Per Twitter:

As M. Night Shyamalan continues to toil away on the Split sequel (Unbreakable 2?), rumors continue to swirl that David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) will star opposite James McAvoy. Shyamalan is still in the process of ironing out a screenplay, so it’s far too soon to know for sure, but we will, as always, keep you posted.

Look for Split to launch via DVD and Blu-ray today, April 18th.
