It’s always interesting to think about which movies stand a chance of making $1 billion at the box office when looking ahead at the year, but it’s fair to say that Despicable Me 3 is right up there with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Star Wars: The Last Jedi as being among those which are almost guaranteed to hit that particular benchmark.

After all, Despicable Me grossed $543 million back in 2010, while the 2013 sequel scored $971 million. The Minions spinoff in 2015, meanwhile, nabbed $1.15 billion, and that’s the figure which this third instalment is going to have to aim for if it hopes to be the biggest entry in the series yet.

So far, the threequel is shaping up to be another enjoyable romp, and today, a new TV spot for Despicable Me 3 has been released which offers up a fresh look at Gru’s apparent return to villainy after meeting his long-lost brother. Steve Carell voices both of those characters in the movie, and he’ll be joined by the likes of Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove and Trey Parker of South Park fame.

It should be a lot of fun seeing Gru and the Minions going back to being villains. The first movie dealt with his transformation from bad guy to good, while the follow-up focused solely on him as a hero. Whether or not he’ll remain evil remains to be seen, but with Despicable Me 3 arriving on June 30th, we should find out soon enough.
