Alien: Covenant is the current cover star of Empire Magazine, that much we know, but with the summer blockbuster season looming large, the outlet has shifted the spotlight over to what is undoubtedly one of 2017’s headline acts: Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Pegged for July 7th, Jon Watts’ all-star reboot is the third crack at a Spidey franchise in the space of two decades – Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield donned the iconic suit in previous films – and though some are harboring a feeling of apprehension going into Homecoming‘s launch, producer Eric Hauserman Carroll told Empire that Marvel is “not making the sixth Spider-Man movie. We’re making the first Peter Parker movie.”
This particular incarnation of the character will be brought to life by the up-and-coming Tom Holland, who can be seen skipping class – and skipping over a 30ft fence – in today’s all-new action shot. It’s an image ripped straight from the Spider-Man comics, and given how Parker is depicted as a sprightly 15-year-old kid in the reboot, expect a fair amount of Homecoming to take place in and around the local high school in Queens.
There’s also the “father-son” dynamic between Parker and Tony Stark to consider, with Robert Downey Jr.’s wonderfully sarcastic mentor figure set to feature in about “five or six scenes” throughout the course of the movie. This is a Spider-Man film through and through, then, and we can’t wait to welcome the wall-crawler back on the big screen once more.
Spider-Man: Homecoming scurries into theaters in time for July 7th. Following up on his cracking debut in Civil War, it heralds the first standalone pic headed up by Tom Holland, and with Infinity War, Avengers 4 and the inevitable Homecoming sequel all cramming up the pipeline, fans of the web-head have plenty to look forward to in the not-so-distant future.
