Oscar Isaac Reflects On His “Intense” Scene With Carrie Fisher Ahead Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

While doing the press rounds for historical drama The Promise, Oscar Isaac reflected on his "intense" scene with Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Regardless of how Rian Johnson decides to handle the beloved character, in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the arc of General Organa is all but certain to be bittersweet due to Carrie Fisher’s tragic passing in December of last year.

Since then, there have been rumblings that the Powers That Be over at Disney would employ VFX wizardry to resurrect Fisher in time for Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX – not unlike the tactic used in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – but those rumors have since been debunked. All of this means that The Last Jedi will really be the film to bid adieu to Fisher’s legendary character, even if the narrative itself doesn’t actually acknowledge the impending transition – and chances are it will.

As for the experience of working under Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac recalled a “pretty intense” sequence he shared with the late, great Hollywood star while doing the press rounds for historical drama, The Promise. Chatting to Business Insider (via Screen Rant), the actor reflected on Fisher’s sheer enthusiasm for the role, before admitting that he’s intrigued to discover how said scene pans out in the final cut.

It was basically my first day [on set] and we did about 25 takes total. Half of them were on me and half of them were on her. I can’t give anything away but there was a scene where there was some physicality there and it was shot just over and over and over. She relished the physicality of it, let me just say. It was pretty intense. It will be funny to see what they cut together based on that.

On December 15th, Star Wars: The Last Jedi introduces the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. Judging by the sequel’s gripping first teaser, the war between the Resistance and the rejuvenated First Order still rages on, and we’re fascinated to see how Rian Johnson’s filmmaking style fits into the Star Wars template.
