The Marvel Cinematic Universe May Never Be The Same Again After Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel will bring an end to a story which began back in 2008's Iron Man. It was there that Tony Stark was recruited into the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, while Joss Whedon and The Avengers introduced us to Thanos just four years later. Those movies also kicked off and concluded Phase 1, and since then, films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been divided into Phases. That could be about to change, though.

During a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that when it comes to Phase 4, things are pretty up in the air right now, with only two films being a certainty at this point.

“Truthfully, other than knowing that we’re going to work with Sony on another Spider-Man film for that year and that James [Gunn] is committed to continuing with the Guardians at some point, it’s all about Phase Three. I don’t even know if it will be called Phase Four. Things will be very different after 2019. After May of 2019.”

What exactly that means is still a bit unclear, but with the contracts of actors like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. coming to an end, it could be that the studio is planning on essentially starting over with a new roster of Avengers made up of the likes of Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man.

What’s also interesting to note here is that Feige makes no mention of Doctor Strange 2, which we heard just yesterday that Scott Derrickson would direct. Of course, just because it’s not on the Phase 4 slate doesn’t mean that the film isn’t happening, but perhaps it’s not as much of a sure thing as we initially thought?

Either way, it sounds like we won’t be finding out more about the studio’s plans for quite some time, so for now, we’ll just have to be content with all the Phase 3 offerings we’ve got coming our way.
