When Batman was about to take Superman down for good with a Kryptonite spear, the latter’s cries for his mother – who had been kidnapped by Lex Luthor – stopped the Caped Crusader in his tracks due to the fact that Martha Kent and Martha Wayne share the same first name. Not everyone connected with that scene, but Lane has now explained why she believes director Zack Snyder made the right decision by including it in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“It’s the compassion for a man who’s lost his mother. When you understand the wound, you can work better with people.”

As for her role in Justice League, the actress wouldn’t reveal much – obviously – but did indicate that she shares scenes with a variety of different heroes from the titular team.

“I don’t think I’m allowed to talk much about it. But it was good for me, selfishly, to have a reunion with everyone and meeting some of the new characters.”

Justice League marks Lane’s third appearance as Martha Kent after Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice, and seeing as the movie will feature the resurrection of her son, it makes sense that she’ll end up playing a key role in the next chapter of the DC Extended Universe. Of course, we still have no idea how Clark Kent will return to the land of the living following his demise at the hands of Doomsday in Batman V Superman, but as of now, it promises to be Justice League‘s most compelling mystery and we can’t wait to see how it’s resolved.
