Resident Evil 7‘s Not A Hero DLC has been delayed until further notice, Capcom has confirmed via a video released yesterday. Apologizing for the setback, game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masachika Kawata explain that, due to the “incredible reception” Resident Evil 7 received earlier this year, the developer ultimately decided to push Not A Hero back, not deeming it “good enough” to stand on equal terms with the base game. Kawata adds that it’s Capcom’s aim to make the content “match the high quality of the main game,” and therefore more development time is needed in order to make that goal a reality.

Disappointing news, to be sure, but there’s already plenty of additional content available for the survival horror sequel to tide you over until Not A Hero‘s eventual launch. Released earlier this year, Banned Footage Vol.1 & 2 include additional scenarios for players to tackle at their leisure, although if you’ve already conquered those, exploring other avenues might be a good idea. Capcom doesn’t provide a revised release date in the video, so when it’s now due to arrive is anyone’s guess. Rest assured, however, that it will still be free to download when it does become available.

We’re still largely in the dark as to what shape exactly Not A Hero will take, though Capcom has confirmed previously that series mainstay Chris Redfield will take on the starring role, having made a brief appearance at the main game’s conclusion to offer protagonist Ethan a helping hand.

If you do plan on looking further afield for something to fill the void while you wait for Not A Hero, it could be worth checking out Red Barrels’ Outlast 2, which is out today on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. See here for our review.
