New Wonder Woman Promos Bring Us Our First Look At Ares

While all eyes are fixed firmly on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the moment as far as comic book movies go, in just a few short weeks those very same eyes will shift focus to Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. After getting off to a bit of a rocky start, the DC Extended Universe is looking to course correct now with the Gal Gadot-led film and, more importantly, the studio is hoping to prove that solo outings for female superheroes can still do solid box office business. To say that there's a lot riding on this one is a massive understatement.

Admittedly, we’ve already seen a LOT from Wonder Woman. Too much, in fact. But apparently, the studio is intent on showing us just a little bit more in hopes of getting everyone on board, as two brand new TV spots were released online earlier tonight and while they contain mostly recycled footage, there are a few fresh shots in here, including our very first look at David Thewlis as the villainous Ares.

It’s not much, but in the spot above you’ll see him in his human form, while the promo below shows an extremely brief glimpse of him in armour. Neither give us an extended or proper look at the antagonist, but they make for a tantalizing tease and we’re happy that the studio is saving the full reveal for when the film hits theatres. After all, they’ve shown off more than enough at this point. In our opinion, at least.

As for the rest of the footage, it’s really just more of the same. We see Diana getting acquainted with the human world, more of the dynamic between her and Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, and a few action shots for good measure. The biggest takeaway here is of course the snippets of Ares, as that’s sure to get fans talking the most. Overall though, both spots do a solid job of teasing the pic and it’s safe to say that we’re all eagerly awaiting Diana Prince’s big screen solo outing at this point.

Will it be the hit that Warner Bros. so desperately needs? We’ll find out soon enough, as Wonder Woman bursts into theatres on June 2nd.
