Striking First Poster For Inhumans Teases The Advent Of Marvel’s Royal Family

With an IMAX premiere booked in for September 1st, Marvel has today unveiled the suitably stellar first poster for The Inhumans.

Across film and television, Marvelites have been acquainted with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy and, soon, The Defenders, a superpowered team of reluctant heroes comprised of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. But on September 1st, select IMAX theaters across the States will herald the advent of Marvel’s Royal Family in the Inhumans.

As an ensemble, Black Bolt and Co. are more in line with the cosmic Guardians than, say, the Defenders in that their origin has deep roots in Marvel’s rich history and, specifically, Attilan, the ancestral home and all-around place of sanctuary for the Inhumans. It’s a story that didn’t quite gel with the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe, and so, Scott Buck (Iron Fist, Dexter) and the Powers That Be opted to shift the project over to ABC, where it’ll join Marvel’s long-running Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D series.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that Inhumans is any less ambitious for going down the route of television; in fact, Marvel has promised “cinema-quality” visual effects, and budding fans will have the chance to put that quality assurance to the test when the first two episodes make their debut via IMAX theaters come September.

Comprised of eight episodes in total, Inhumans has recruited a suitably star-studded lineup that includes Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan (Queen Medusa), Ken Leung (Karnak), former Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon as Maximus the Mad, Eme Ikwuakor (Gorgon), Mike Moh (Triton) and Sonya Balmores as the mercurial Auran. To date, the show’s exposure has been limited to set photos, but today brings forth the striking first poster.

The official synopsis, meanwhile, is as follows: “After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.”

Originally hatched as another entry into the ever-expanding MCU, Inhumans has been repackaged as an eight-part spinoff TV series. An IMAX premiere is set for September 1st, with all eight episodes set to air via ABC this fall.
