Earlier today, Black Manta actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II took to Twitter to share photos of himself and director James Wan meeting with Indigenous Elders and youths in Australia, but spotted right between them both is Patriots Day‘s Michael Beach. The duo were there obtaining the group’s blessing to shoot on their land, but the fact that these two specific actors were shown together has led to a lot of speculation online.

Many believe that Beach could be playing Black Manta’s father. In the comic books, he was killed by a young Arthur Curry by mistake after he and his son attacked Aquaman’s father. This led to Manta having a lifelong hatred of the Atlantean which ultimately made him suit up as a supervillain. Of course, nothing has been confirmed in regards to this just new rumor yet, and it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything from WB now that the official cast list is out there, but it’s a safe bet to assume that Beach could have a small role in the highly anticipated movie.

Aquaman is set to be released next December and is currently the studio’s only DC Comics adaptation coming in 2018. That puts a significant amount of pressure on the movie to succeed then, but with James Wan at the helm and a talented cast assembled in front of the camera, the signs are certainly promising.
