New Rumors Suggest Far Cry 5 Will Be A Western Set In Montana

The rumors just keep on flowing out of Ubisoft HQ, it seems. We've only just fully digested the report earlier this week that appears to have outed the next entry in the Assassin's Creed series, but now there's something else to keep tabs on. If there's one Ubi franchise big enough to compete with the former's mass appeal, it's Far Cry, and it's looking likely that it, too, is due to get another sequel in 2017.

The rumors just keep on flowing out of Ubisoft HQ, it seems. We’ve only just fully digested the report earlier this week that appears to have outed the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, but now there’s something else to keep tabs on. If there’s one Ubi franchise big enough to compete with the former’s mass appeal, it’s Far Cry, and it’s looking likely that it, too, is due to get another sequel in 2017.

As per Screen Rant, Great Falls Tribune published a report last week about a live-action shoot taking place in and around Montana for an unannounced video game to be released in September. The trailer’s producer, Jeff Guillot, confirmed that filming was taking place for a sequel to “an existing global franchise,” which, combined with the setting, led many to speculate that Guillot was shooting for a live-action Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer.

According to recent comments made by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier over on the NeoGAF forums, however, this is unlikely to be the case, as Rockstar doesn’t go in for live-action trailers, preferring instead to use in-engine footage as it did with Grand Theft Auto V and its predecessors. Schreier’s comments were quickly followed by another user stating they’d heard rumors of a Far Cry sequel taking place in the “American Great Plains and dealing with militias/survivalists,” to which Schreier simply replies with “You guys are good!” If this all sounds a little too circumstantial for your tastes, Screen Rant also notes that Jeff Guillot just so happened to be the producer of a live-action trailer for a previous Far Cry title, so it all sounds rather convincing, does it not?

As is always the case with rumors, one should take all of the above with a pinch of salt, but if Far Cry 5 truly is in development and scheduled to launch later this year, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be showcasing the sequel at this year’s E3 next month.

Sit tight, June’s going to be one hell of a ride.
