After an excruciatingly long wait, Disney and Lucasfilm finally gave us the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi at Celebration last month, almost breaking the internet in the process. Though it didn’t show off a whole lot, what we got was definitely exciting and as Luke muttered those now infamous words – “it’s time for the Jedi to end” – at the closing moments of the preview, fans were sent into a collective frenzy.
We hate to break it to you, but it’s probably going to be a while before another trailer debuts, so you’re going to have to keep that speculation running full steam ahead for a little bit longer. Thankfully, to ease the wait, a number of fan-made edits of the first Last Jedi teaser have begun to surface online in recent weeks and that trend continues today with what might just be the best one yet – especially if you’re above a certain age.
As you can see at the top of the page, this new edit of the trailer is done in VHS-stye, like something you’d get back in the ’80s. Bearing similarities to the preview for Return of the Jedi (which stems from the fact that some of the title cards and audio here are taken from that film), it’s a nostalgic watch and should definitely bring back memories for those who can even remember what a VHS is. Don’t expect to get anything in the way of new footage from The Last Jedi here, but this fan-made trailer is a clever and creative take on what we’ve already seen and is something that older Star Wars fans will surely appreciate.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to make a beeline into theaters on December 15th. As things stand, it’ll be the last of Disney’s Star Wars tentpoles to occupy the Christmas corridor for quite some time; not only have the Han Solo origin movie and Episode IX been slated for early summer windows (May 2018 and May 2019, respectively), but 20th Century Fox has effectively block-booked December from 2020 to 2025 in preparation of James Cameron’s many Avatar sequels.
