The Night King peers out of the dark in this chilling piece of key art for Game of Thrones season 7.
Truth be told, it’s been a busy few days in the Westeros camp, what with piping-hot action shots and extensive interviews in which the show’s mainstays – Iain Glen, in this case – showered praise on season 7’s seemingly engrossing scripts: “I thought they were the best seven episodes they [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] have ever written.” High praise indeed.
With a mid-July premiere date officially locked in, the Game of Thrones hype train continues to hurtle down the serpentine track, and with all signs pointing to HBO unveiling the first full trailer sooner rather than later, the official GoT Twitter account has conjured up the next best thing: Season 7’s key art, featuring The Night King.
Otherwise known as the all-powerful leader of the first White Walkers, The Night King is evil personified, and holds the power to summon forth an army of Wights without so much as breaking stride. He (it?) has been around since the dawn of the First Men, and after spearheading a massive attack in the North – a siege that resulted in the heart-wrenching death of Hodor (Kristian Nairn) – the people of Westeros are bracing for another attack. It’s a question of when, rather than if.

It’s the penultimate season of what is undoubtedly one of the greatest TV shows in a generation, and Game of Thrones season 7 has been earmarked for a premiere on July 16th. But HBO’s adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire will span far beyond 2018, what with rumblings of multiple prequel pitches doing the rounds at the network – in fact, according to founding father George R.R. Martin, there are five story ideas in contention, just don’t hold your breath for Dunk and Egg or Robert’s Rebellion.
