Mark Hamill Promises That Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will Be “Different”

Though J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens was very well received by a good majority of fans and most critics, one common complaint was that it was far too similar to A New Hope in terms of its structure and plot. Because of this, a lot of people are hoping that when we return to that galaxy far, far away for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson will deliver something we haven't seen before.

While we’re going to have to wait until December to find out if that’ll be the case, Mark Hamill has suggested that audiences are going to be treated to something “different” with the film. The iconic actor made the claim during a short behind-the-scenes video that you can watch above, which Vanity Fair debuted earlier today as part of their extensive coverage of the next chapter in the Star Wars saga.

“It’s so much different in many ways from the other episodes. And yet, I think it’s very satisfying in delivering what the fans want to see,” says Hamill.

This is obviously a very vague comment, but Johnson has previously assured fans that he plans on mixing up the formula a bit this time around, and taking everything we’ve seen from the film so far into account, we certainly have no reason to doubt that that’s true.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to be released later this year, on December 15th, with Episode IX to follow on May 24th, 2019.
