Watch The Striking Opening Minutes Of Daniel Espinosa’s Life

Did you see Life when it was released in cinemas back in March? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't, as it dramatically flopped, pulling in a meagre $30 million domestic on a $58 million budget. At the time, the film was widely criticized as being a blatant Alien ripoff and, with Alien: Covenant on the way, audiences seem to have figured they may as well wait for the real deal.

Did you see Life when it was released in cinemas back in March? I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t, as it dramatically flopped, pulling in a meagre $30 million domestic on a $58 million budget. At the time, the film was widely criticized as being a blatant Alien ripoff and, with Alien: Covenant on the way, audiences seem to have figured they may as well wait for the real deal.

Well, Alien: Covenant is now here and it’s good, but it’s not quite the return to form we all hoped it would be. So, with the Life Blu-Ray set to be released on June 20th, maybe it’s time to reevaluate the movie? Let’s start with the first ten minutes, which has just been released by Sony Pictures and can be viewed above. The video showcases the film’s striking opening long shot, in which we track around the inside of the space station in much the same way as Gravity did a couple of years back. Also, we get our first glimpse of the alien lifeform that’s destined to bring an awful lot of misery to the crew of the International Space Station.

I’m not going to go so far as to call Life an unjustly ignored classic, but as far as space-set horror films go, it’s definitely a cut above average and well worth a watch. Sure, director Daniel Espinosa has clearly seen Alien a whole bunch of times, but if you’re going to crib from a movie, then at least it’s a good one. Plus, there’s enough sadistic and imaginative twists in there to make the experience a worthwhile one.

Life is set to be released on Blu-ray, Ultra HD and DVD on June 20th.
