Star Wars: The Last Jedi Exec Drops An Intriguing New Hint About Snoke

Ever since the sinister Supreme Leader Snoke made his presence known in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been desperate to find out more about the enigmatic villain, resulting in a number of theories popping up. Recently, we got a glimpse of some Star Wars: The Last Jedi LEGO sets which featured a Snoke minifig sporting a very different look than he did in the previous film, which has led to speculation that, despite his deformed/disfigured appearance, the character may actually be human.

That seemingly prompted a response from Lucasfilm executive Pablo Hidalgo, who points to a passage from the official Force Awakens tie-in novel, which makes it very clear that Snoke is definitely not human:

Of course, Snoke being an alien of some sort completely rules out several fan theories that he might actually be any number of previously established characters, from Emperor Palpatine to Mace Windu to Ezra Bridger from the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Could it be that Snoke really is a brand new character after all? If he does turn out to be someone we know from one of the previous movies or the expanded universe, the fact that he’s not human definitely narrows down the possibilities, at any rate.

Whatever his true identity is, we’re probably not going to see it revealed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as director Rian Johnson has confirmed that he’s not going to “get into” the Snoke character too deep in the movie. Guess the big reveal – if there even is one – is being saved for Episode IX then.
