Universal reportedly has “no plans” to show the first teaser trailer for Jurassic World 2 anytime soon, which isn’t all that surprising given Juan Antonio Bayona’s sequel is still shooting scenes on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Word comes by way of Jurassic Outpost, after the outlet reached out to the studio regarding the recent wrap party in England. Online chatter indicated that some footage from Jurassic World 2 was to be shown at the London event – perhaps alongside that yet-to-be-confirmed logo – but the studio was quick to debunk the report, confirming that if there is any form of media on display at London’s wrap party, it’s not “official marketing material.”
It’s also worth keeping in mind that Jurassic World 2 started to lens in February, and has only now passed the halfway point in production. Jeff Goldblum, meanwhile, signed on to reprise his iconic role of Dr. Ian Malcolm just last month, and is likely still in the process of shooting scenes. In short, Universal and J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2 is still gestating in the bowels of production, so we struggle to imagine a scenario in which both parties are ready to unleash the sequel’s inaugural teaser anytime before fall 2017.
Here’s that status update, via Universal:
“No plans yet for a teaser trailer. Not sure what is being shown at the London wrap party, but it’s not official marketing materials.”
Even if Universal is holding fire on that fabled teaser, the first marketing materials for Jurassic World 2 have already clawed their way online. They’re not terribly remarkable, of course, but they do spotlight Chris Pratt’s returning dino expert Owen Grady and some of the weird and wonderful creatures – creatures from a bygone era – set to appear in the 2018 sequel.
Jurassic World 2 is on course to stomp into theaters on June 22nd, next year.
