Tom Holland is going places. Make no mistake about it, the Spider-Man: Homecoming star has an incredibly bright future ahead of him in Hollywood.
While it still remains to be seen how his new take on the iconic hero will fare in Jon Watts’ standalone reboot, the actor has nothing to worry about as far as looking for work outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes. Already, his slate is packed with exciting projects like Chaos Walking and Uncharted and once Homecoming hits theatres, you can bet that he’ll add a few more.
But for now, Holland remains very much tied to the MCU, with roles in Avengers: Infinity War and a Spider-Man sequel to look forward to, plus whatever other projects Marvel decides to throw him into, before he swings back over to Sony of course. Or should we say ‘if’ he swings back over to Sony? The whole situation is rather complicated, with it still being unclear how long exactly the House of Ideas has possession of the character for. If there’s one thing for certain though, it’s that Holland isn’t just fixated on the web-slinger.
While speaking with fellow Homecoming star Zendaya in the latest issue of Interview magazine, the actor was asked what other roles he’d love to play in Hollywood, and surprisingly, he named both James Bond and Batman. We say that’s surprising because at only 21 years of age, he’s far too young to portray either of those characters, unless there was some sort of reboot/prequel that came about. Unfortunately though, that doesn’t look too likely.
At the moment, both 007 and the Dark Knight are finding great success in their current iterations and both characters have actors attached to play them. That being said, neither property is going anywhere anytime soon and there’s no doubt that both Bats and Bond will still be kicking around theatres in 15-20 years from now. So who knows?
Maybe Holland will get his chance to play one of them. Personally, we think he’d make a better Bond than Caped Crusader, but he’s a fine young actor who could probably pull off either role, especially once he’s had another decade or two of experience under his belt. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. For now, we can look forward to seeing Tom Holland swing into theatres in the red and blue suit when Spider-Man: Homecoming debuts on July 7th.
