Will Marvel’s Film And TV Worlds Cross Paths? “Maybe Someday,” Says Kevin Feige

When asked about the chances of Marvel Studios collaborating with Marvel's thriving TV division, Kevin Feige said "maybe someday."

It’s the age-old question that has lingered over Marvel‘s TV and film divisions ever since Charlie Cox suited up as the Man Without Fear; will the Powers That Be ever engineer some form of large-scale crossover event?

Both mediums are currently preparing for a crossover of their own (see: The Defenders and Avengers: Infinity War), but fans have long wondered whether the likes of Jessica Jones and, say, Captain Marvel will ever share the screen together. Last we reported, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige appeared to confirm that a crossover event is all but inevitable, but now the studio’s president and all-around MCU mastermind has weighed in on the matter once again to state that, at least for now, there are “no plans” in place for a film/TV crossover.

Chatting to AlloCiné (h/t Screen Geek) – the same interview in which Feige offered up his latest verdict on the possibility of an R-rated Marvel movie – the studio’s head honcho turned in the following status report when asked about the chances of Marvel Studios collaborating with Marvel’s thriving TV division.

Maybe someday. No plans right now. Maybe someday, but we have a lot of characters in the MCU, and one of the things that is so special about those characters on the Netflix shows is their dynamic together. They are all combining to become The Defenders later this year and are doing their own thing.

Falling back on a ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ mantra, it’s difficult to argue with Kevin Feige’s reasoning. With the exception of Iron Fist – lacklustre pacing and cries of whitewashing beset the Finn Jones-fronted drama from the outset – Marvel and Netflix’s roster of content has gone from strength to strength. That momentum will culminate with the formation of The Defenders on August 18th, before all four individual heroes break off and return to their own respective solo series shortly thereafter.

For the MCU, the next two-to-three years will herald a similar blend of content, with next year’s Avengers: Infinity War shaping up to be the event movie to end all event movies. Perhaps Marvel will find wiggle room within Phase 4 of the MCU to carve out some form of film/TV crossover? Time will tell, but you can bet that we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one as it develops.

In the meantime, tell us, do you think a crossover between the two mediums can work? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
