The British Film Institute has posted a new, all-too-brief featurette for Star Wars: The Last Jedi that’s designed to spotlight its long-running collaboration with Lucasfilm, and the various job opportunities it creates across editorial, sound, and visual effects.
It allows for an intriguing peek behind the scenes, as select academy trainees outline the painstaking creative process underpinning The Last Jedi, not to mention that immensely satisfying moment when the end result is projected onto the big screen for the first time. They’re the lifeblood of the production, essentially, and up above you’ll get a chance to hear their inspiring stories straight from the horse’s mouth.
Be sure to keep your peepers peeled for a pair of all-new shots pulled from Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well, which spotlight two of the film’s leading ladies: Gwendoline Christie and Daisy Ridley. In case you missed them, we’ve included the pics below.
On the dark side of the Force is Christie’s Captain Phasma, who can be seen marching out of a burning building with her blaster in tow. Whether this is actually a flashback scene is up for question, given that it’s eerily reminiscent of Rey’s vision in The Force Awakens. Speaking of Ridley’s heroine and Jedi-in-training, the second of today’s action shots focuses on Rey as she charges into battle against an unseen enemy. Kylo Ren, perhaps? Or is this scene taken aboard Ahch-To?
Said to balance the “familiar with the unfamiliar” and lay down a new series of rules for this most precious of cinematic universes, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been penciled in for release on December 15th. It’ll be followed in relatively quick succession by Ron Howard’s Han Solo spinoff – filming on that one is expected to resume on July 10th after a turbulent week – before Colin Trevorrow’s brings the curtain down on Disney’s rebooted trilogy with the release of Episode IX in May of 2019.
