Only six months have passed and already, 2017 is shaping up to be a banner year for Warner Bros. and its DC Extended Universe.

Much of that buzz can be traced back to the Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman, which is now on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing entry into the DCEU – domestically, at least. It’ll likely achieve said feat by the weekend, but while launching Gal Gadot’s Immortal Warrior onto the silver screen, over the past few months, the Warner Bros. brain trust have been plotting the future of their comic book movie franchise.

Those future-proofing plans have yielded some exciting results, too, including spinoffs in the vein of Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, and Batgirl, the latter of which will be directed by Joss Whedon.

Due to the personal tragedy that befell Zack Snyder and his family, and Whedon’s subsequent decision to help shepherd Justice League over the finish line, the rate of Batgirl‘s production has surely been affected. However that may be, the DCEU Leaks subreddit has uncovered a new report claiming to have identified those actresses who have been shortlisted for the role of Barabara Gordon.

Among those mentioned are Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon) and Naomi Scott, one of the many breakout stars of Lionsgate’s Power Rangers reboot. Last we reported, Warner Bros. was seemingly casting the net in search of a woman of color to play Batgirl, all the while marking Robin and Black Canary for potential cameos.

Still nothing to report on that front just yet, but as for this latest tidbit, DCEU Leaks’ source even goes so far as to suggest that WB wants to lock down an actress imminently so that it can sneak in a surprise Batgirl announcement at San Diego Comic-Con next month. Whether that is indeed the case will be told in time, but for now, here’s that purported list of candidates:

Elle Fanning (Neon Demon/Live By Night)
Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel)
Bella Throne (Shake It Up!)
Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why)
Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers)
Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe)
Emma Roberts (Scream Queens)
Haley Lu Richardson (Split/Edge Of Seventeen)
Naomi Scott (Power Rangers)

Whatever the case, San Diego Comic-Con is shaping up to be a big one for the folks at Warner Bros., and we’ll have all the announcements for you right here on We Got This Covered the moment they go live. Meanwhile, next up for the DCEU is the release of Justice League on November 17th, and you can readily expect Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s tentpole to have a presence in Hall H come July 20th.
