Filming is now underway on the Atlanta set of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, and the first behind-the-scenes stills have surfaced online to prove it.

First spotted by Facebook fan page Gormaru Island (via Screen Rant), the photos themselves are fairly nondescript in that they only spotlight various nighttime shots, controlled explosions, and a handful of camera operators and other members of the crew. Bear in mind that this is a CG-heavy blockbuster, and considering that King of the Monsters only began filming in mid-June, it’ll be some time yet before we catch a glimpse of Gojira’s new nemeses: Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.

Nevertheless, eagle-eyed readers may be able to glean some additional tidbits from the set photos below, which appear to showcase either the aftermath of a Kaiju attack, one in which the humans go up against those God-sized monsters, or some form of monstrous brawl between Godzilla and his otherworldly enemies. Once Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah rise from their slumber, thereby placing Monarch on red alert, the battle that ensues between each skyscraping deity is enough to leave the fate of the world in the balance.

But despite the sequel’s headline-worthy casting docket, there is plenty of A-list human talent on board to help instill a degree of drama into the spectacle. Chief among them is former Bloodline actor Kyle Chandler, who plays the role of a scientist alongside wife Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring series), and daughter Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things). Also on board are Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi, who is all set to become a fixture of the MonsterVerse through until the release of Godzilla Vs. Kong in 2020.

Following in the humungous footsteps of Godzilla and Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Vietnam-set prequel, Kong: Skull Island, Gojira will surface from the depths to prove he is, in fact, the King of the Monsters on March 22nd, 2019. Krampus helmer Michael Dougherty is behind the lens.
