It is, in essence, a sequel 30 years in the making, one poised to bring definitive answers to questions that have long haunted science fiction fans – is Deckard a Replicant, or not? However that may be, many believe that 2049 is a sequel that treads on hallowed ground. Even with Denis Villeneuve behind the wheel, who earned a tremendous amount of praise for his work on Arrival, there’s a particular air of trepidation among those looking forward to Blade Runner 2049‘s release in October.

But if the jury’s still out on whether Villeneuve and his team can deliver in the story department, there’s no question that the film is shaping up to be one of the most visually stunning releases of 2017. Case in point: Empire Magazine’s latest subscriber cover, which features a silhouette of LAPD rookie K (Ryan Gosling) set against a neon cityscape. When designing the particularly striking one-sheet, the outlet hired design duo Van Orton, two Italian brothers who specialize in design and illustration. And, frankly, their latest piece knocks it out of the park.

Plus, with the latest issue now on its way to subscribers, expect a raft of Blade Runner 2049 content to be filtered through Empire in the coming days. We will, as always, keep you right up-to-date as those tidbits begin to surface.

Following in the footsteps of Alien: Covenant, another sequel to one of Scott’s genre classics, Blade Runner 2049 will light up theaters on October 6th. What does the future hold for future Los Angeles? It seems Ridley Scott has already entertained the thought of branching out to launch spinoff stories set within the rich Blade Runner universe. Stay tuned for more on that one.
