When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all of the attention right now is on Spider-Man: Homecoming, and understandably so. Peter Parker’s first headlining effort in the MCU is winning over audiences and critics alike and is well on its way to a respectable box office haul. But looking further ahead, there’s much to be excited about, especially once 2018 rolls around.
In fact, one film that’s emerged as something of a dark horse is Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. Though not a household name just yet, the titular hero is slowly working his way up the totem pole and after a strong debut in Captain America: Civil War, fans are now excited to see more of him. That excitement was only heightened even further thanks to the film’s explosive first trailer, which brought with it a gritty and fresh feel that was, to be frank, quite unlike anything we’ve seen from the MCU to date.
Now, Marvel is continuing on with their marketing campaign for the blockbuster and today, we have a brand new TV spot for you to feast on. Well, actually, perhaps ‘brand new’ isn’t an accurate way to describe it, as there isn’t actually anything in the way of new footage here. Rather, it’s just a recut version of the original teaser, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a watch. If anything, it just reminds us what a good time we’re in for.
For those who need a refresher, the 2018 actioner stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, who, as we mentioned before, made his MCU debut thanks to the release of last year’s Civil War. In the wake of his father’s death, Boseman’s wet-behind-the-ears leader is anointed king and forced to defend Wakanda and its people from new threats – namely Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) and the malevolent Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). It makes for a fairly compelling origin story, and though Marvel is still playing its cards relatively close to the chest, this new promo for Black Panther is tantalizing nonetheless.
Casting-wise, the Powers That Be over at the studio have tapped a truly enviable lineup of Hollywood talent, with Boseman and Serkis set to share the screen with Michael B. Jordan (Killmonger), the Oscar-winning Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi. Rounding out the ensemble are Mission: Impossible 6 star Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, John Kani and Rogue One‘s Forest Whitaker. He’ll play Zuri, an old ally to T’Challa.
