Christopher Nolan Reveals Plans To Remaster The Dark Knight Trilogy In 4K

While doing press rounds for Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan has revealed plans to release 4K remaster of his celebrated Dark Knight Trilogy.

Though it may err on the side of hyperbole, The Dark Knight Trilogy is far and away one of the greatest achievements in the realm of comic book adaptations.

Comprised of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s three-parter is widely considered to be one of the best interpretations of Gotham’s Caped Crusader to date. It’s not without its faults, of course; minor pacing issues and plot holes are among the few complaints directed at Nolan’s superhero trilogy, but if you’re looking for an excuse to dive back into that world once again, how does a 4K version sound?

While doing the press rounds for Dunkirk, his WWII epic that has already attracted a metric ton of social media buzz in anticipation of its theatrical launch on July 21st, Christopher Nolan spoke to BadTaste.it (with a tip of the hat to Batman-News) about digging through the archives to remaster a series of his films from yesteryear, beginning with The Dark Knight Trilogy.

As Nolan reveals in the interview, releasing all three Batman movies in 4K will bring the resolution closer to the 6K resolution his films were shot on, while HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology will allow for a sharper image. In layman’s terms, HDR makes the whites whiter and blacks blacker by producing a greater range of luminosity, so we can only imagine how crisp and clear The Dark Knight Trilogy will look when re-released in the high-resolution format.

Further details on a release timeline were not disclosed at this early stage, but rest assured, The Dark Knight Trilogy in 4K is in the pipeline. As for Christopher Nolan’s latest, expect Dunkirk to deploy on July 21st.
