It’s almost hard to believe, given the relative volatility of the film franchise and its numerous reboots, that the character is enjoying such a surge in popularity. But then again, with the web slinger now – finally – officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and respected developer Insomniac Games currently at the helm of a brand new Spidey game, the cause of the resurgence becomes rather obvious.

As of now, it’s too early to say whether the studio can replicate the critical success of Spider-Man: Homecoming with its upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, but early impressions certainly point to a resounding yes. If for whatever reason you missed out on Sony’s show-stopping gameplay reveal at this year’s E3, you only need to divert your eyes upwards to the top of this article, but for those craving new details, Insomniac’s Bryan Intihar let slip a few morsels of information at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

As per ComicBook.com, Intihar revealed some new concept art for the title, including one (above) depicting Spidey going head to head with villain Mister Negative. Thanks to a behind the scenes featurette released last week, we know that themes of duality are going to be explored extensively in the title, with both hero and villain leading normal, unremarkable lives behind the mask, so to speak. Intihar doesn’t provide any further details on this, but does confirm that both Aunt May and Norman Osborn will play prominent roles throughout the game, the latter of which will be holding office as the city’s mayor.

That’s a wrap, for now, at least, but with Spider-Man not scheduled to launch until 2018 at the earliest, expect Insomniac to have much more to share over the coming months. Stay tuned!
