Something that set Kingsman: The Secret Service apart from run-of-the-mill spy movies like the James Bond films (er, no offence, 007) is its gleefully self-aware tone. That doesn’t look to change in its upcoming sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, either. At least, not if these brand new character posters are any indication.
Alongside a shot of each of the seven main characters is a description of them that sums up what role they play in the movie. For instance, Taron Egerton’s Eggsy is “a gentleman spy” while Channing Tatum’s Agent Tequila is “a token American” and Julianne Moore’s Poppy is “an eccentric villain.” Mark Strong and Halle Berry’s characters are labelled “a gadget man” and “a gadget woman,” respectively, while Jeff Bridges’ Champ is “a grumpy boss” and, finally, Colin Firth’s Harry Hart is coupled with the tagline, “a far-fetched plot.”
The Golden Circle will ring some major changes from the first movie. As the trailers have revealed, the Kingsman organization will be destroyed by Moore’s – “eccentric” – villain, leaving Eggsy and Merlin (Mark Strong) to travel to the USA to team up with their cousins from across the pond, the Statesman. Despite his character dying at the hands of Samuel L. Jackson’s villain in the first film, Colin Firth is also back as Harry Hart/Galahad. No doubt there will be some comically convoluted explanation for his return, hence the “a far-fetched plot” poster.
It’s clear from these one-sheets that 20th Century Fox have realized what the two big reasons to see the highly anticipated sequel are. Firstly, it’s a fun, irreverent take on the spy movie genre and secondly, the talented cast of British and American talent alike is sure to light up the screen when Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives on September 29th.
