Don’t Expect Avengers: Infinity War To Focus Too Much On The Newer Heroes

We don't know a whole lot about Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War just yet, but if there is one thing we can definitely count on, it's that it's going to be absolutely massive. And we don't only mean in scale and scope, either. Yes, it'll be big in both those regards, but also in the sheer number of characters that are set to appear on screen.

We don’t know a whole lot about Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War just yet, but if there is one thing we can definitely count on, it’s that it’s going to be absolutely massive. And we don’t only mean in scale and scope, either. Yes, it’ll be big in both those regards, but also in the sheer number of characters that are set to appear on screen.

So far, we’ve heard varying reports about exactly how many familiar faces we’ll be seeing, but it could be over 60. In other words, if you’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and still breathing, you’ll probably be involved in the superhero extravaganza in some way. Be it small cameo or vital role. With so many characters to handle though, how will the Russos possibly choose who to give priority to when it comes to screen time? Simple: it’s the most important ones who will take the spotlight.

Speaking to Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con last week, Joe explained that the story will focus mostly on the heroes you’d expect it to. He doesn’t name names, but we imagine he’s referring to folks like Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, among a few others.

You know, the story really centers who you would expect it to center around, so our more important characters. This is a culmination film ten years in the making and we are pulling the main story threads from all of the different franchises into one unifying narrative. So any of the important characters are going to be in this film and they are going to have something important to do in the movie.

This makes a lot of sense, for a couple of reasons. For one, the Avengers we mentioned above are the franchise’s biggest draws and purely from a box office and fan-pleasing perspective, it’s easy to see why Marvel would place the spotlight on them.

But beyond that, with the old guard said to be departing the MCU soon to make room for a new line-up, one that will consist of Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel, among others, it makes sense to give the original team one last hurrah before the next generation takes over. That being said, let’s just hope that we still get some awesome moments/scenes for those aforementioned heroes. Well, not the latter, as apparently, Carol Danvers won’t actually be involved in the film, but definitely for the others.

Avengers: Infinity War will be with us on May 4th, 2018 and despite reports to the contrary, the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 won’t herald the much-touted MCU reboot as initially thought.
