San Diego Comic-Con has now come and gone for another year, but fans are still reeling from what was an overwhelming weekend of content, be it in the form of new trailers, photos, posters, etc. for most of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming releases. Undoubtedly, one of the titles to draw the most attention – and not surprisingly – was Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, the superhero film to end all superhero films.
As you surely know by now, Thanos is set to be the big bad of the movie, and with the Guardians of the Galaxy also getting in on the fun, you’d think that a lot of the action will take place in space, right? Well, maybe not. We’ll no doubt see our merry band of heroes leaving Earth for at least part of the film, that much has been confirmed, but according to Joe Russo, they won’t be floating around up there for too long.
While speaking with Cinema Blend last weekend at Comic-Con, the director was asked about how much of Infinity War will be set on the planet we call home, and here’s what he had to say:
A good amount. It’s a lot of different narratives driving towards each other. A lot of different characters, so you have to tell a lot of story. And it’s a good mix between space and Earth.
In some ways, this does make sense. After all, with 60+ characters rumored to be part of the blockbuster, it’s not like everyone’s going to be heading into space. There will no doubt be several storylines that play out entirely on Earth and as such, we can certainly see how the film may split its time between the two environments.
That being said, I think we’re all pretty excited to watch Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take the fight to Thanos, so let’s hope that the Russos give us enough space set action to scratch that itch. Something tells us they’ll deliver in that regard though. At least, if that leaked trailer is anything to go by.
Packed to the rafters with scene-stealing chemistry and “intense surprises,” Avengers: Infinity War will launch into theaters on May 4th, 2018.
