To this day, Noah stands as Aronofsky’s highest-grossing release, but the director is about to trade big-budget spectacle for a more intimate, drama-oriented project. Its name? mother!, a psychological horror that evokes comparisons to some of Darren Aronofsky’s earlier efforts (see: Requiem For a Dream, Black Swan), and he’s brought along an A-list cast to help bring his vision to life.
Directing from his own script, Aronofsky has tapped Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Wiig, Michelle Pfeiffer, Javier Bardem and Westworld‘s Ed Harris for a family drama that largely centers on a young couple who find their relationship tested when an uninvited guest comes knocking. Having retreated from the crowded Halloween corridor, Darren Aronofsky’s mother! will now open opposite the likes of American Assassin and All I See Is You on September 15th. It’s understood Paramount is making a big festival push for Aronofsky’s latest as well, with plans for screenings at both Venice and the Toronto International Film Festival.
