Ever since ABC prematurely cancelled Agent Carter after a paltry two seasons, Marvel fans have been calling out for Hayley Atwell to return to the MCU as the kickass secret agent, and they might just get their wish.

A couple of days ago, the actress visited Marvel Studios HQ and met up with co-president Louis D’Espinosa, who shared a couple of photos of her visit on Twitter. The first shows the pair in D’Espinosa’s office, with the caption: “Look who came by to visit today.”

The second features Atwell posing with the co-president in front of the Howling Commandos wall mural (seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier). “Standing in front of one of my favorite murals with one of my favorite people, Hayley Atwell,” D’Espinosa wrote.

Take a look at them below:

The big question here is: just why is Atwell checking in at Marvel? Is she popping by to see some old friends? Possibly, but it’s surely more likely that she’s dropping in to discuss a new appearance as Peggy Carter. Presumably, there isn’t some revival of Agent Carter on the cards but rather a cameo from Atwell in an upcoming Marvel movie.

But which film could the actress be appearing in? One option is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which has just started production. Peggy appeared in a flashback at the start of the first movie, so if we’re going to explore more of Hank Pym’s past dealings with S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s possible that Atwell could return.

Another contender could be Captain Marvel, which we recently learned would be set in the 1990s and feature Nick Fury. It sounds like S.H.I.E.L.D. will be a major part of the story, then, which could result in a role for an elderly Peggy.

For now, though, we’ll have to keep speculating until some concrete info comes our way. Let’s just hope that we’re on the right track though and Hayley Atwell is indeed on her way back to the MCU.
