It’s no secret that the Merc With a Mouth endured a long, meandering road to the silver screen.

Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, it proved to be a journey fraught with setbacks and production woes – particularly early on in the creative process, when a live-action feature film was by no means a sure thing. But Ryan Reynolds’ unwavering commitment to the Merc paid off once that by-now famous test footage leaked online, scared the bejesus out of director Tim Miller, and ultimately convinced 20th Century Fox to roll the dice on Deadpool.

Fast forward to 2017 and we’re now beginning to see its sequel, simply titled Deadpool 2, coalesce on the streets of Vancouver. This week alone, the eagle eyes of Just Jared have captured candid photos of both Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) parachuting down from the sky, but now, the latest helping of set photos see Reynolds and Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz sharing a laugh between takes.

Decked out in their respective costumes – albeit without the Merc’s trademark mask – if nothing else, these photos serve as an exciting tease of the chemistry brewing between both actors, so we can only imagine what’s in store once Josh Brolin’s Cable enters the fray.

Otherwise known as Nathan Summers, Brolin’s musclebound mercenary has drawn praise from the four corners of the industry, with David Leitch, in particular, welcoming the casting of the Avengers: Infinity War actor with open arms.

Deadpool 2 has been penciled in for a release on June 1st, 2018. The sequel faces a tall order if it’s to emulate the success of its predecessor – $783 million worldwide, for those keeping track – but we’re quietly confident that the Merc’s sophomore outing will deliver the goods in a year’s time.
