Star Wars is, without question, one of the biggest brands in entertainment, and each new property that comes tumbling off Disney’s production line – be it Forces of Destiny or Gareth Edwards’ anthology flick Rogue One – tends to boast its own merchandise line. The Last Jedi is no different.
Aside from its big splash at Star Wars Celebration and the comparatively smaller showing at D23 last month, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been shrouded in a thick veil of secrecy, making it next to impossible for budding fans to unearth any tangible story details. And really, that’s a good thing, lest Rian Johnson’s upcoming sequel be spoiled ahead of time.
But thanks to the eagle eyes of Star Wars News Net, there’s been a steady stream of information – unverified information, but information nonetheless – to fill that void, and the latest concerns the casino city of Canto Bight and its police speeders. Dubbed a “playground for rich assholes” by Rian Johnson, we’ve learned in the past that this bustling metropolis will play host to a bizarre chase sequence, and if these figurines are any indication, we’d wager that those Canto speeders will be involved.
Here’s a description, followed by a handful of images (including one of a very cool Resistance A-wing): “Anyone attempting to break the law on Cantonica had best move fast, as the police force of Canto Bight has at its disposal these swift, lightweight pursuit craft.”
While these images are certainly exciting, attempting to wean plot details from a movie’s merchandise is always an exercise in risk-taking. As such, we suggest you take these purported tidbits with a pinch of salt. Further details on the sequel, including that first full trailer, will likely be shared in the coming weeks though, so be sure to stay tuned for more.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi makes a beeline for theaters on December 15th. It’s one of three tentpole projects from that galaxy far, far away simmering in the works, alongside the untitled Han Solo movie and Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX.
