Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson Wants Carol Danvers To Go Up Against The Hulk

While doing press for The Glass Castle, Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson told USA Today that she fancies Carol's chances against the Hulk.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are known for squabbling amongst themselves almost as much as they are for defending our planet from alien nasties and corrupt organizations in the vein of Hydra. From the tension bubbling between Captain America and Iron Man, which ultimately spilled over in last year’s Civil War, to the upcoming gladiatorial tussle involving Thor and the Incredible Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel fans haven’t been left wanting for some good old-fashioned friendly fire within the MCU.

And if Brie Larson has her way, the latest clash could involve Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and her Captain Marvel, who’s poised to make her debut via Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s 2019 solo movie – assuming Joe and Anthony Russo haven’t already included her in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War, that is.

While promoting her forthcoming drama The Glass Castle, Larson spoke to USA Today (via CBM) about shouldering the responsibility of Captain Marvel – the studio’s first female superhero earmarked for her own solo effort, no less – and why she believes Carol Danvers can be an inspirational symbol to all.

The Captain Marvel thing was something I really spent a lot of time thinking about. And eventually, I came to the conclusion that being part of a giant feminist film that can be a symbol for people, that was one I wished I would have had, just outweighs some of the small annoyances (of fame). Like, they’re really small in comparison to the good that it can do.

Further in the interview, the Oscar-winning actress then touched base on the possibility of locking horns with another member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, at which point she name-dropped the Incredible Hulk as a potential foe.

I do kind of have fantasies of battling The Hulk, just because that’s like, it’s just visually so good.

As CBM points out, Hulk and Captain Marvel originally came to blows within the pages of Secret Wars (2015), and that battle had huge ramifications for Marvel’s comic universe as a whole. Truth be told, we can’t imagine Kevin Feige and Co. adapting that same arc for the big screen, but it’s fun to speculate nonetheless.

Next up for the MCU is the release of Thor: Ragnarok on November 3rd of this year, before Avengers: Infinity War brings together all active members of this most ambitious of cinematic universes on May 4th, 2018. Soon thereafter, Marvel will introduce the world to its first female-fronted solo movie when Captain Marvel graces theaters on March 8th, 2019.
