Riz Ahmed’s Mysterious Venom Character May Also Be In Silver & Black

Sony’s Marvel Universe is beginning to come together at a brisk clip. With talk of standalone pics for Kraven and Mysterio, not to mention a spinoff based on Silver Sable and Black Cat from director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights), the studio has made serious headway on its own Spidey universe in recent weeks, and it all begins with the launch of Ruben Fleischer’s Venom next October. Filming is expected to commence this fall, when Tom Hardy (Dunkirk) will be wrestling with that titular alien symbiote.

He won’t be alone, either, as earlier this week we heard that Riz Ahmed had come into contention to play a “major Marvel character” in the 2018 spinoff. First reported by The Tracking Board, it was initially believed that he had tested for the role of the Chameleon, as Sony Pictures began casting its net in search of Venom‘s primary antagonist.

That hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but the outlet is now back with some additional information, telling us that whoever it is that Ahmed’s playing, be it Chameleon, Carnage or someone else entirely, the character will also be in Silver & Black, presumably linking the two films together in an effort to help shape Sony’s Spider-Man cinematic universe – one that won’t actually involve the web-slinger, mind you.

What’s interesting to note here is that if Ahmed is indeed set to feature in both movies, then it’s not likely he’s playing Carnage, as we can’t see any reason for why the character would appear in Silver & Black. As such, it seems like he’ll definitely be portraying Chameleon, which is what all the speculation points towards, too. Of course, Sony hasn’t come out and commented on any of this just yet, but we expect some answers soon.

Finally, The Tracking Board also mentions that Prince-Bythewood’s spinoff may feature Spidey villains Tombstone and Tarantula. Again, that’s unconfirmed, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard those character’s names linked to the film and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them show up there.

As always, we’ll let you know once we hear more, but in the meantime, tell us, who do you think Riz Ahmed is playing in Silver & Black and Venom? Let us know in the usual place.
