Karen Gillan Wants To Play The Joker In Flashpoint

While having an actor star in both a DC and Marvel movie isn't quite as rare as you might think, you don't really see anyone hopping from the MCU to the DCEU, or vice versa. Especially not someone who's got a major role in either franchise. Still, that hasn't stopped former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan from expressing her desire to do so, as the actress revealed this weekend that she's got her eye on a particular villain who hails from DC Comics.

While having an actor star in both a DC and Marvel movie isn’t quite as rare as you might think, you don’t really see anyone hopping from the MCU to the DCEU, or vice versa. Especially not someone who’s got a major role in either franchise. Still, that hasn’t stopped former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan from expressing her desire to do so, as the actress revealed this weekend that she’s got her eye on a particular villain who hails from DC Comics.

Speaking at Florida SuperCon, Gillan, who’s currently playing Nebula in the MCU and will next be seen in the role in Avengers: Infinity War, was asked if she could portray a character in any other property aside from Marvel or Doctor Who, which one would she choose. Surprisingly, she revealed that she’d love to suit up as Mr. J in a DCEU film.

“Oh, can I say something DC? Okay, I’m going to say something DC, and I’m going to play the Joker. Maybe a female Joker. “This is my calling! Somebody make a call for me and let them know I’m available.”

Now, before you go ahead and point out that Gillan can’t possibly play the Joker since she’s a woman, we’d like to remind you that in the “Flashpoint arc in the comics, which is now being adapted for the big screen and takes place in an alternate universe, the Clown Prince of Crime is actually a female, with Bruce Wayne’s mother, Martha, becoming the villain after her son had been murdered and her husband, Thomas, becomes Batman.

That being said, given that The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Cohan already played Martha in Batman V Superman, it doesn’t seem like Gillan would be able to swoop in and nab the role. Plus, like we said above, it’d be tough for the actress to hop from the MCU to the DCEU – but who knows? Stranger things have certainly happened and we’d be lying if we said we wouldn’t be, at the very least, intrigued to see what the Doctor’s former companion could do as the Joker.

Again, though, we wouldn’t hold our breath for this to happen and Karen Gillan’s desire to play the iconic villain, in Flashpoint or some other DCEU movie, is likely more just wishful thinking than anything else.
