Avengers: Infinity War To Delve Deep Into Nebula’s Tragic Past, Karen Gillan Promises “Emotional Explosion”

Avengers: Infinity War actress Karen Gillan has offered some insight into Nebula's crucial role in the upcoming event movie.

It’s been a busy weekend for Karen Gillan.

The flame-haired Scot was in attendance at the Florida SuperCon (via ComicBook.com), and fielded all sorts of questions about her ongoing role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the tragic character of Nebula, and the possibility of one day crossing over to DC waters to play the Clown Prince of Crime.

Whether that ever comes to pass is another question entirely, but while discussing Avengers: Infinity War and, more specifically, Nebula’s crucial role in it, Gillan hinted that Joe and Anthony Russo’s forthcoming event movie will build on the momentum established in the two Guardians movies and delve deep into Nebula’s grim past.

Without giving away any spoilers, we’re definitely going to continue the arc for Nebula and find out more about her past. And actually, we’re going to find out that it’s even worse than we know. We’re going to see her confront all of it. It’s going to be an emotional explosion.

Gillan may not name-drop the Mad Titan, but we assume that “emotional explosion” has something to do with Nebula’s fraught relationship with Thanos (Deadpool 2‘s Josh Brolin), who is known to be the adoptive father of both Karen Gillan’s blue-skinned rogue and her sister, Gamora (Zoe Saldana). That conflict will surely spill over into the untitled Avengers 4, which is expected to complete Marvel’s one-two punch in 2019.

Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, opens on May 4th, 2018. Not one to rest on their laurels, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already gone ahead and fired up production on its as-yet-untitled sequel. From what we understand, the official title of Avengers 4 is a major spoiler for the events of Infinity War, so we can’t imagine Marvel will want to unveil said moniker anytime before May of next year. Stay tuned for more on that front.
