Disney Will Also Be Reinventing Snow White

For some reason Hollywood has a fascination with Snow White at the moment, we have no clue why, it just does. Tarsem Singh has his version of the fairytale on the way, an adventure called The Brothers Grimm: Snow White set up at Relativity. Then there is Snow White and the Huntsman, a project set up at Universal which imagines Snow White as if she were in Middle Earth. And now 75 years after bringing the character to life, Disney will chime in with their reinvention of the classic character.

This one however will be very different. The film is a live action production to be directed by Michael Gracey, with a script that was polished by Oscar winner Michael Arndt and is called The Order of the Seven. The project is set in China and focuses more on the dwarves than Snow White herself:

The seven are a 19th century-set disparate band of international warriors belonging to a centuries-old order who have lost their way. Their meeting with an Englishwoman being chased by an ancient evil is the catalyst for their redemption.

The production on this began in 2002 but it has been kept very quiet while filmmakers like Francis Lawrence passed on it. It also been passed through scriptwriters such as Michael Chabon who each minimised the role of Snow White and turned it into a straight forward action film. Production is said to get underway next year.

Tarsem Singh’s Snow White featuring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts will open on March 16th, while Snow White and the Huntsman, which stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron will debut on June 1st.
