Dumbo, Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animated films, has found yet another big name talent to add to its cast.
Variety has confirmed today that Argo‘s Alan Arkin has now signed up for the pic. A legendary actor and one who always impresses, this will mark the second time that Arkin’s teamed up with director Tim Burton, as the pair previously worked together on 1990’s Edward Scissorhands.
He’s not the only Burton regular to be roped in for the project, either. Former Beetlejuice and Batman star Michael Keaton is on board, as is his Batman Returns co-star Danny DeVito (who also worked with Burton on Mars Attacks! and Big Fish). Another Burton regular, Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), is involved as well, rounding out what’s a very impressive cast.
As you no doubt know, Dumbo is the tale of an adorable baby elephant who can use his abnormally enormous ears to fly. Burton’s remake, however, will put a greater emphasis on the human characters in the story. Colin Farrell leads the live-action adaptation as Holt Farrier, a former circus star who’s asked to care for Dumbo by DeVito’s circus owner Max Medici. Green’s acrobat Colette Marchant and Keaton’s greedy businessman V.A. Vandevere then attempt to make the little elephant a star. Arkin, meanwhile, will play Wall Street tycoon J. Griffin Remington.
This is Burton’s second Disney remake after he began the trend with 2010’s Alice in Wonderland. Since then, we’ve had the likes of Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon and Beauty and the Beast – nearly all of which have received glowing reviews.
As for Dumbo, it’ll fly into theaters on March 29th, 2019.
