Unbreakable, Split, and now Glass, the third and seemingly conclusive chapter in M. Night Shyamalan’s saga of rogue heroes and an unhinged protagonist nursing a rare case of dissociative identity disorder.
It makes for a fairly unorthodox Hollywood franchise, that’s for sure, and Shyamalan is currently hard at work drafting the third chapter in a trilogy nearly two decades in the making. Expected to launch into theaters in two years’ time, that would put the mind-bending thriller on course to enter production either later this year or, in the more likely scenario, sometime in early 2018. Chalk that up as conjecture for now, but one thing we do know is that the director’s upcoming effort will feature a sure to be epic showdown between Bruce Willis and James McAvoy.
Or at least, a new plot synopsis for the flick teases as much. It may be brief, but it’s certainly enough to get us excited and you can check it out for yourself down below.
Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
Pegged for a release in January of next year, Shyamalan’s wildly ambitious creative venture is set to tie together the story strands of Split and Unbreakable, the superhero-esque prequel movie that first launched in 2000. Such a rapid expansion allows for a cast comprised of Willis, McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson and Anya Taylor-Joy, and we know from previous status reports that M. Night Shyamalan is rustling up a suitably dark conclusion to this most unorthodox of film franchises.
It turns out the director’s comeback story has wowed studio executives, too, with reports claiming that Universal has allotted a “more traditional” budget for Glass‘ ongoing production. That extra pool of resources will no doubt lend Shyamalan more leeway in the VFX department, and we’re fascinated to see what the final product looks like when all is said and done.
Glass has officially been slated for release on January 18th, 2019.
