As is common practice for Hollywood’s summer blockbusters in this day and age, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales snuck in a post-credits scene to leave audiences on tenterhooks once the dust had settled from Jack Sparrow’s latest high-seas adventure.
The only problem here is, the actor featured in said scene, Bill Nighy, was completely unaware that his tentacled villain Davy Jones was utilized for a dialogue-free, CGI cameo, and only found out about his involvement through a taxi driver. Word comes by way of Empire, where Nighy recalled a rather candid chat about Captain Davy Jones, that after-credits scene, and the possibility of returning to Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean at some point in the future.

I didn’t know anything about it until about a week ago. The cab driver said, ‘Are you doing the next one?’ I said, ‘No. I didn’t know there was a next one.’ He said, ‘Well, you were in the last one’. I said, ‘No I wasn’t’. He said, ‘Yes, you were’. So that’s all I know. You probably know more than I do.
Having appeared in Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, many believed that Bill Nighy’s tenure in the Pirates series had come to a conclusion. But considering Dead Men Tell No Tales brought Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swan) back to the fold, the addition of Davy Jones simply completed the reunion. Whether this cameo will lead to anything, though, is another question entirely, but at the very least, Nighy is game to return. Let’s just hope Disney give him a heads up this time around.

Dead Men Tell No Tales (known officially as Salazar’s Revenge in the UK), struggled to leave much of an impression at the domestic box office, scoring a paltry $171 million in North America. But much like Transformers: The Last Knight and Power Rangers before it, Disney’s swashbuckling sequel managed to perform remarkably well overseas, resulting in a box office total just shy of $800 million.
Such an impressive tally certainly leaves things open for a sixth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. Assuming the stars align, would you be interested to see Bill Nighy reprise the role of Davy Jones? Do let us know.
