Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto Reaffirms His Commitment To Joker Role Within DCEU

With news of a Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff and Suicide Squad 2 being fast-tracked, Jared Leto has once again reaffirmed his commitment to the DCEU.

With news of a Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff movie along with an origin story centering on the Clown Prince of Crime – for the record, the latter takes place outside of the DCEU, unlike The Batman – there have been a lot of question marks raised over Warner’s DC Extended Universe and, in particular, Jared Leto’s future in it. Or lack thereof.

To his credit, the Blade Runner 2049 actor voiced his commitment to the role of Gotham’s Joker for both Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens earlier in the week, even if the latter has reportedly lost its place in the DC lineup to the untitled Joker and Harley Quinn movie.

And now, to clear up any confusion, Leto has addressed the rumors head-on while appearing on Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O (via Screen Rant). Asked if his time working in the DCEU has come to an end, the actor replied:

No, there’s so much hype and bullsh– about that, I think it’s just fun thing to talk about. Even when [Suicide Squad] came out, there was so much misrepresentation about what went down, about the method acting crap. It’s just that 90% of it was not even true. It just takes on a life of its own.

Providing the stars align and Jared Leto’s future in the DCEU stretches far beyond Suicide Squad 2, he’ll reunite with Margot Robbie’s trickster as they headline their own DC-themed spinoff. And based on the actor’s comments, fans can readily expect the same chemistry seen in David Ayer’s original flick.

Filming Suicide Squad was an incredible experience, everyone was amazing. Margot Robbie [is] one of the nicest people and one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with. I really loved working with her. I thought the scenes we did together were some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set before. But everything is great in that world and I’m really proud to be a part of it.

Little to no information has been released for Suicide Squad 2, but reports tell us that it’s been fast-tracked by Warner. Assuming that is indeed the case, a 2019 launch date is surely on the cards, which would place Task Force X’s sophomore outing alongside the untitled Wonder Woman 2 (December 13th, 2019) and David Sandberg’s Shazam spinoff.
