Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Brandon Stark is the new power player of Game of Thrones, according to one fan theory, which spells bad news for the Night King.

Knowledge is power, and recently, Game of Thrones viewers witnessed that age-old adage unfold through Bran and Samwell Tarly’s jaw-dropping exchange in Sunday’s season 7 finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.”

Having returned north with Gilly (Hannah Murray) following their brief spell in the Citadel, Sam rushes to Winterfell in the hope of finding Jon Snow, the newly-anointed King of the North. Instead, he stumbles upon young Bran Stark, who is now going by the title of the Three-Eyed Raven. Imbued with psychic-like abilities, the young wolf has become Westeros’ bankable search engine, and that’s something we saw in action when Bran triggered a vision of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark’s super-secret wedding.

The result? Jon Snow isn’t a bastard; his name is Aegon Targaryen, and he’s the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. That admittedly makes Sunday’s impassioned love scene with Daenerys (she’s his aunt, for crying out loud!) a little weird, but then again, the Targaryens have a history of incest.

And so, as the fallout from Sunday’s grand finale continues, Screen Rant has relayed the latest fan theory from Reddit, one which draws attention to Bran’s seemingly limitless power. Posted by user ‘kinboy’, this far-reaching speculation – and this is mere speculation, we might add – highlights Bran and Sam as a powerful double act going into the show’s eighth and final season.

Per Reddit:

Bran is now Samwell’s master codex. He is Encyclopedia BritBrannica. To have the most curious character meet and partner with the most omniscient character is to create the Internet in Westeros. Sam won’t have to dig through books and tomes anymore. He can simply BRoogle the answer and away we go. […] It certainly gives them the potential to be the most powerful/dangerous [characters in the show].

The seventh, penultimate season of HBO’s Game of Thrones came to an end with “The Dragon and the Wolf.” Word is that season 8 won’t begin filming until October, which leaves plenty of time for fan theories to breed online. Not only that, but it also leads us to believe that Thrones‘ series finale will be reserved for 2019, before the inevitable prequel series launches onto HBO.
