Aquaman Is Said To Be Like Star Wars Underwater

With Wonder Woman having recently won over critics and moviegoers alike, one can only hope that the DC Extended Universe is able to keep the ball rolling by releasing one stellar solo superhero film after another. And knowing that the next movie up (after Justice League, of course) is Aquaman, which is set to star Jason Momoa and be directed by visionary filmmaker James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring), one would certainly expect that trend to continue.

What especially broadens the appeal of Arthur Curry’s first solo cinematic outing is that it’ll obviously be very different from the rest of the movies occupying this genre. I say that because much of the flick is expected to take place in the depths of the ocean, with the kingdom of Atlantis likely being nothing short of majestic.

Previously, actor Willem Dafoe clued us in as to how the underwater scenes will be shot, before later comparing this film to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, which he also happened to have starred in. And, as it turns out, his fellow castmate Ludi Lin (Murk) continued fueling the hype train this week with the following statement:

“The thing is, there is so much about Aquaman that I have seen so far in filming… there’s so much to this film. The difference between Aquaman and the other superheroes in the DC Universe, is that it exists almost in a different world. James Wan, our director, is amazing. He’s described his vision as “Star Wars underwater” because it is! All the physics are different, their weapons are different, the characters are very unique. It’s just super cool.”

Now, if that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will. Personally, I always thought a proper movie featuring Aquaman would be like Clash of the Titans underwater, but drawing comparisons to one of the most wildly popular and lucrative film franchises in history certainly does the trick.

Aquaman arrives in theaters on December 21, 2018.
